Sue Longley, IUF general secretary, participated in the recent meeting of the Professional Group of Agricultural Workers (GPTA) held in Bogotá on September 18 and 19.
In this video, she discusses the event, highlighting the issues addressed and underlining the need for a global approach to deal with the problems faced by workers in the agricultural sector.
The widespread use of toxic agrochemicals and the extreme heat caused by climate change and its effects on those who work in the fields are pressing issues and they cannot be addressed in isolation, she says.
“The pesticides they use are releasing greenhouse gases that are driving climate change, which are putting workers’ lives at risk as they work in extreme temperatures”.
