Lage Andréasson passed away on March 25, at the age of 92. A baker by profession, he was an indefatigable political and labor activist who fought on various fronts.

He served as President of the Swedish Food Workers’ Federation (Livs) from 1979 to 1991 and headed the IUF from 1989 until 1993. Highly regarded for his firm ideological convictions and his unique charisma, he was the IUF’s most memorable president.

Along with Dan Gallin and Enildo Iglesias, respectively former IUF General Secretary and former IUF Latin America Secretary, Lage was a key player in the executive team that developed a deeply political programmatic agenda of action.

His solidarity-centered practice was instrumental in, among other scenarios, the support that the IUF provided to the struggle of banana workers in Urabá, Colombia, when violence was raging against the emblematic union of Sintrainagro.

In Sintrainagro’s 94th Meeting, held on March 31, our affiliate organization paid tribute to our fellow unionist and friend Lage: a true internationalist.
